The Blunt Kubotan

Thursday, January 6, 2011 @ 01:01 AM

I’m always pretty blunt. I’ve heard many complaints about my bluntness. There is one complaint about being blunt that I will welcome with open arms. That complaint comes from my blunt kubotan.

Also called a kubaton, this little self defense weapon became popular in the 197o’s for it’s awesome pain submission abilities. There are two models of kubotans to choose from, blunt and pointed. I currently carry a pointed kubaton but prefer the blunt because of it’s sharp edges.

There isn’t a part of the body that will not succumb to the power of just a few pounds of pressure from the kubaton. Anywhere on the body where flesh meets bone is susceptible. The blunt kubaton also excels with rib rakes. A rib rake is when you run the edge of the kubotan up and down an attacker’s ribs.

Pain Submission By Kubaton

kubatonIf an attacker is able to grab you there is little you can do to ward off the attack with just your bare hands without extensive hand-to-hand combat or self defense training.  There is one self defense tool that can get you out of that dangerous situation with minimal effort and it’s small enough to fit on your key chain.

The Kubotan, also called a Kubaton is a miniature baton that can go anywhere you go without being noticed. It is simply your key chain. Cause that’s your story and you’re stickin’ to it! Little do attackers know of the key chain baton’s powerful tool of persuasion called leverage. If someone grabs you from behind, use the mini-baton to jab your attacker in the face. The first hit to the face will stun them and a second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth in quick succession will cause your attacker to lessen their grip. If your attacker gives you an inch of movement, you take a mile and get away. Jab the kubaton into the soft, fleshy pocket between the neck and clavicle (collar bone) and pull toward you as hard as you can. Jab your attackers side with your kubaton or run the baton up and down the rib cage. Play that rib cage like it’s fiddle! Punch the kubaton into your attackers armpit or stab them in the thigh. The possibilities are excitingly endless!

The kubaton comes in many different colors with a pointed or blunt tip. The pointed versus blunt tip kubaton is simply personal preference.

The best thing about a kubaton is the price. A solid, lathe-turned aluminum key chain baton usually runs between $6 and $7 so you can buy one for all of your friends and family too!

Don’t leave home without your kubaton.

The Last Line of Defense

When it comes to protecting yourself, there’s nothing more important than being prepared. When you’ve exhausted your other options such as stun guns, tasers, or pepper spray, it’s important to have self defense equipment that can be used in close quarters. For this purpose, kubotans, also called kubatons, are an excellent choice.  Kubotans are designed to debilitate a potential attacker with a blow to their joints such as elbow, knee, or shoulder.  While this might not be possible depending on the intensity of the situation and experience with a hand to hand weapon, a kubotan can also be used as a blunt object to strike the attacker wherever possible and end a continued assault. The best part is, a kubotan can be concealed without much effort, or even attached to a keychain where it can be drawn for use at a moment’s notice.

Kubotans are a practical option for men or women because of their simple design and ease of use. While it’s difficult to imagine a situation where you find yourself disarmed and in danger of suffering physical harm, should that situation ever arise you’ll be glad you have a kubotan available at your side.
