The TASER Design Used By Police Worldwide
A TASER weapon is a device that shoots electrified darts at an attacker using compressed gas, unlike a stun gun which is a direct-contact 
stun device.
The TASER weapon used by Police worldwide is the TASER M26 and the model available to the civilian market is the TASER M26C. The TASER M26C is characterized by a design that mimics that of a pistol. The TASER M26C is held, aimed and fired just as a pistol would be. Instead of shooting a bullet, the TASER M26C fires two darts that are connected to the unit with shielded conductive wire. The wires on the TASER M26C are 15 feet in length, which is the maximum distance it can be fired. Military and Police models fire up to twice that distance.
Upon being fired, the trigger mechanism releases the compressed nitrogen which is used to propel the two electrified darts of the TASER M26C. The TASER M26C darts can penetrate up to two inches of clothing. The TASER M26C will then begins to fire a 5-10 second pulse causing what TASER International, Inc. calls Neuro Muscular Incapacitation (NMI). When the TASER Air Cartridge containing the darts opens, tiny tags containing the serial number of that particular cartridge are also released. The serial number gives law enforcement the owner’s information. Consequently, this brings up the need to register your TASER M26C before it is activated by TASER International, Inc. TASER International, Inc. will also conduct a background check and charge an additional fee for conducting that background check. Retailers do not usually offer refunds on TASER Weapons for failed background checks.
The TASER M26C Air Cartridge can be removed and the TASER M26C used as a direct stun device, similar to a low-power stun gun.
